About
Giovanna Alvarez developed a love of the arts from a young age and was given the opportunity to cultivate her interests into a lifelong passion. For the last eight years she has honed her craft and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Florida State University (FSU). She specializes in traditional and contemporary methods of painting using both oil and acrylic mediums.
Giovanna has a surreal style in her personal work which speaks to subjects of nature, human anatomy, geometry and psychology. Vivid colors, deep shadows, a mix of high detail and expressive brush strokes often characterize her paintings. Her pieces have been exhibited in galleries across Florida including Art Basel in Miami for the past two years.
She began learning to paint by studying portraiture. People, children, horses and equestrian scenes are the main subjects of her portraits. She offers portrait commissions in oil paint, acrylic paint as well as charcoal and graphite drawings. The portraits can be done from photographs or a live sitting.
In the last two years she has branched out into public art. Recent projects include a mural created in Wynwood Miami for Art Basel and chalk art for Lake worth street painting festival (2020) in West Palm Beach. She completed a collaborative mural for Florida State University’s student union in 2018. In addition she has contributed to several music and arts festivals as a live painter, mural artist and exhibiting artist.
